Hacker Gets Jail Time, Hefty Fine for Revenge on Former Employer
A old IT employee hacked into the computer database of the citizenry World Health Organization fired her and was ordered to ante up $17k in indemnity.
Patricia Marie Fowler was fired from the Suncoast Community Wellness Centers in Ruskin, Florida on March 13, 2009. She was purportedly contumacious and didn't keep an eye on the instruction manual of her superiors. Fowler was the computer systems handler for three long time, and she decided to use her computer expertness and insider knowledge to take revenge on her employers. Four days after she was fired, Fowler hacked into the calculator system of the health center, which provides health care for low-income residents. While she was in the system, she changed payroll and holiday-prison term information, the password to the company firewall and the localisation of files. This week, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison and was ordered to pay $17,243.01, which was the estimate of how much damage she caused.
The crazy portion is that Fowler did all of this ready to extort her employer for a severance package and a glowing reference letter, as well as a statement that firing her violated company insurance policy. Once the FBI became involved and interviewed her, Fowler admitted that she was the mortal WHO had involved the intrusion.
I don't bang about you, but it doesn't appear to make sense to hack into your cold company's database to screw with information, and then contact them to get a reference letter operating theatre teh hackzors will continue. Something all but that program seems awry. I can't rather put my finger on IT …
Oh yeah, information technology's stupid. Fowler deserves her time in federal prison, if only for failing to watch and understand Office Space. There's atomic number 102 conjugal visits in federal prison house.
